FOIR Calculator – Check How Much EMI You Can Afford

FOIR stands for Fixed Obligations to Income Ratio. It shows how much of your net monthly income already goes towards fixed payments such as loan EMIs and credit card dues. Banks and NBFCs use FOIR as one of the key checks when deciding how much personal loan they can offer you.

Use the CibilBazaar FOIR Calculator to enter your income, existing obligations and the FOIR allowed by a lender, and see how much room you may have for a new EMI.

What Is FOIR?

FOIR is the percentage of your net monthly income that is committed to fixed monthly obligations. A lower FOIR means you have more income left for a new loan EMI.

FOIR (%) = (Total monthly fixed obligations ÷ Net monthly income) × 100. The maximum EMI a lender may allow can be estimated as (Net monthly income × Allowed FOIR %) − Existing obligations.

Why FOIR Matters for a Personal Loan

Repayment Capacity

FOIR helps the lender judge whether you can afford a new EMI along with your existing commitments.

Lender-Specific Limits

Each bank or NBFC sets its own allowed FOIR, which can vary with income, employer category and other factors.

Existing Obligations

Running loan EMIs, credit card payments and other fixed obligations reduce the EMI you may be eligible for.

Loan Amount

For the same FOIR, a longer tenure or a lower interest rate can support a higher loan amount.

How to Improve Your FOIR

Closing or reducing existing loans and clearing credit card dues lowers your monthly obligations. Increasing your documented income, or applying with an eligible co-applicant where the lender allows it, can also improve the amount you may qualify for.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is FOIR?

FOIR is the Fixed Obligations to Income Ratio, the share of your net monthly income that goes towards fixed monthly obligations.

2. Which obligations are counted in FOIR?

Lenders typically consider existing loan EMIs, credit card obligations and other fixed monthly commitments. The exact list depends on the lender's policy.

3. What is a good FOIR?

A lower FOIR is generally better because it leaves more income for a new EMI. The maximum FOIR allowed differs from one lender to another.

4. How is FOIR calculated?

Divide your total monthly fixed obligations by your net monthly income and multiply by 100.

5. Does a good FOIR guarantee loan approval?

No. FOIR is only one factor. Approval also depends on your credit profile, employment details, employer category and the lender's policies.
